The Season of Advent

Advent, from the Latin word meaning “to come,” marks the beginning of a new church year.  The season of Advent is a time of hope and anticipation as we look for Christ coming into our world.  During the season of Advent, some changes take place in our worship services.  The altar hangings and clergy vestment colors for Advent are blue and purple, symbolizing the night sky in which the star appeared to announce the birth of Jesus, and the color of royalty to welcome our new King.  We will also have an Advent wreath in church.  Each week, an additional candle of the wreath is lighted as we draw closer to the light of Christmas.
