A Message from the Director of Music Ministries

Choral Evensong

Choral Evensong is a service of scripture, prayer, and music. The word “Evensong” is a term first used in the 1549 Book of Common Prayer; Evensong has sung regularly in the Anglican Church since the 16th century. When you take part in a service of Evensong, you are joining in a pattern of worship that has been developed in the Anglican Church over many centuries. First-time attendees are often struck by the beauty of the service itself, the words that are said, and the music that is sung.

Evensong in Celebration of the Anniversary of Women’s Ordination – July 26, 2020

This service features the music of women composers and a special offering by Music of Grace Artist-in-Residence, Elizabeth Hill.  A link to the service bulletin can be accessed here:  Women’s Ordination Choral Evensong

Independence Day Choral Evensong – July 4, 2020

This offering features the music of American composers, including a new arrangement by D.C.-based composer, conductor, and ethnomusicologist Dr. Steven M. Allen. Dr. Allen’s “Martin Ferguson” arrangement of the Star-Spangled Banner, conceived from the trials of Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown, will serve as an introit to the service.  A link to the service bulletin can be accessed here: Independence Day Choral Evensong
